How to measure correctly
  1. Wear a non-padded bra or no bra for accurate readings.
  2. Underbust: wrap tape snugly around your ribcage directly under the bust. Keep tape parallel to the floor. Exhale and measure in centimetres.
  3. Overbust: measure around the fullest part of your bust. Tape should be loose enough to slide a finger underneath.
  4. Stand naturally — don’t lift arms or lean forward. Both measurements in the same posture.
  5. Round to the nearest 0.5 cm for best accuracy.

What Is the EU Bra Sizing System?

Quick Answer

EU bra sizing uses centimetre-based band numbers (60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100…) paired with single-letter cup sizes (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J) — no doubled letters. Band size is derived directly from your underbust measurement in centimetres, rounded to the nearest 5 cm: 73–77 cm underbust rounds to EU band 75. Cup size is the difference between overbust and underbust in centimetres, with each 2–3 cm representing one cup step. EU sizing is used across Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Scandinavia, and Spain, and is the system of Triumph, Chantelle, Hunkemöller, Sloggi, and Zalando.

The EU bra sizing system is built entirely on centimetres, making it the most mathematically direct of all international sizing systems. Where the US and UK derive bands from underbust inches and apply offsets, the EU system uses the raw centimetre underbust measurement and rounds to the nearest multiple of five. A woman with a 76 cm underbust has an EU band of 75 — the number directly reflects her body measurement.

Cup sizing in the EU system also avoids the doubled-letter confusion of the US system. Rather than DD, DDD, DDDD, the EU assigns a new single letter to each cup step: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J. Each letter represents approximately 2–3 cm of bust-to-underbust difference. This means an EU E cup is one step larger than EU D — whereas in the US, the same volume is labelled DD (same cup letter doubled), and in the UK it is also labelled DD. The EU system’s single-letter progression is the clearest and most logical of the three.

Where EU sizing creates confusion is in its relationship to the French system. French brands like Chantelle, Simone Pérèle, and Aubade add 15 to the EU band number — so EU 75B becomes FR 90B. The cup letters stay the same. This FR offset trips up shoppers who see a size like 90C on a Chantelle label and assume it means an 90 cm underbust, when in fact the true underbust is 73–77 cm (EU 75).

Key Takeaways
  • EU bands are centimetre-based: 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105 — derived directly from your underbust cm
  • EU cups use single letters only: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J — no DD, DDD, or FF notation
  • EU E cup = UK/AU DD cup = US DD cup — one step above D, same volume across all systems
  • EU 75 = UK/US 34 = AU 12 = IN 34 — all describe an underbust of 68–72 cm
  • French sizing = EU band + 15 — EU 75B becomes FR 90B (same cup letter, different band number)

How to Measure Your EU Bra Size

EU sizing requires only centimetre measurements — no inch conversion needed. You need your underbust and your overbust, both in centimetres.

  1. Prepare correctly

Wear a non-padded bra or no bra. Stand naturally with arms relaxed at your sides. Padded bras add 2–4 cm to your overbust reading, shifting your EU cup by one or two letters.

  2. Measure your underbust in centimetres

Wrap the tape snugly around your ribcage directly beneath your bust. Keep it parallel to the floor all the way around. Exhale fully and record to the nearest 0.5 cm. This gives your EU band size: round your underbust to the nearest 5 cm. For example, 76 cm rounds to EU 75; 78 cm rounds to EU 80.

  3. Measure your overbust in centimetres

Measure around the fullest point of your bust. Keep the tape horizontal and loose enough to slide one finger underneath — natural shape, not compressed. Record to the nearest 0.5 cm.

  4. Calculate your EU band

    Round your underbust to the nearest 5: 63–67 cm = EU 65, 68–72 cm = EU 70, 73–77 cm = EU 75, 78–82 cm = EU 80, 83–87 cm = EU 85, 88–92 cm = EU 90, 93–97 cm = EU 95, 98–102 cm = EU 100. If exactly between two bands, try both — start with the smaller.

  5. Calculate your EU cup letter

    Subtract underbust from overbust: 10–11 cm = A, 12–13 cm = B, 14–15 cm = C, 16–17 cm = D, 18–19 cm = E, 20–21 cm = F, 22–23 cm = G, 24–25 cm = H, 26–27 cm = I. EU uses 2 cm increments per cup — slightly different from the UK’s 2.5 cm grading.

Pro tip

Remeasure every six months, or after any weight change of 3 kg or more, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. EU band rounding means a 2–3 cm change in underbust can shift you from EU 75 to EU 80 — a significant fit difference. Measuring precisely and rounding correctly is more critical in the EU system than in inch-based systems where a wider band range absorbs small measurement variations.

Myth busted

Many European shoppers assume their EU 75E is equivalent to a UK 34E. It is not. EU E cup equals UK DD cup — not UK E. The EU cup system runs one letter ahead of UK above D. An EU 75E buyer looking for the same size in a UK retailer should look for UK 34DD, not 34E. This single conversion error is responsible for the majority of sizing mistakes made by European shoppers buying from British brands like Bravissimo, Panache, or Marks & Spencer.

What Are Sister Sizes in EU Bras?

Sister sizes in the EU system work identically to other systems: same cup volume, different band. In the EU system, bands step in 5 cm increments — so going up one EU band (e.g., 75 → 80) means going down one cup letter to maintain the same volume.

The sister size rule

  • Smaller band, larger cup letter: If your EU 80C band rides up, try EU 75D. Same volume, tighter band.
  • Larger band, smaller cup letter: If your EU 80C band digs in, try EU 85B. Same volume, looser band.

EU Bra Brand Sizing Differences

Most European brands follow the EU cm-band standard, but construction differences mean fit varies meaningfully between labels.

Triumph EU

Germany’s largest lingerie manufacturer and the reference brand for EU sizing precision. Triumph’s sizing follows the EU standard exactly and is used by many European retailers as the benchmark for cup and band grading. Stocks EU 65–110 in cups A–H across their main ranges.

Fit: True to EU size. Triumph is the Wacoal of the European market — use it as your calibration brand when testing other European labels.

Chantelle FR

French luxury brand using French sizing (EU + 15) on their labels. Chantelle cups tend to run slightly generous. Their moulded cup construction suits medium-projection breast shapes particularly well.

Fit: Cups run slightly generous — if your Chantelle cup gaps at the top, size down one cup. Remember FR band = EU band + 15: FR 90 = EU 75.

Hunkemöller EU

Netherlands-based lingerie chain with stores across Europe. Uses EU sizing throughout. Known for affordable fashion-forward styles. Bands run slightly looser than the EU standard — particularly in wireless styles.

Fit: Bands run slightly roomy — size down one band if between sizes. Cups are true to EU standard.

Sloggi EU

Triumph Group’s everyday and comfort brand. Uses EU sizing. Known for wire-free and comfort bras in an extended size range. Sloggi’s cup grading follows the EU standard precisely.

Fit: True to EU size. Wire-free styles may feel looser in the band — size down if between sizes in wireless styles.

Simone Pérèle FR

French luxury brand using French sizing (FR = EU + 15). Known for precise cup grading and high-quality fabrics. Simone Pérèle bands tend to run firm — similar to Panache UK’s band construction.

Fit: Bands run firm — size up one EU band if your underbust is toward the top of the range. Convert FR to EU by subtracting 15 from the band number.

Aubade FR

French lingerie house using French sizing. Aubade cups are specifically designed for fuller, rounder breast shapes. Their size range typically covers FR 80–100 bands (EU 65–85) and cups A–F.

Fit: Cups suit rounder breast shapes — if you have a shallower or projected shape, try Chantelle or Triumph instead. FR band to EU: subtract 15.

Bravissimo UK (buying as EU shopper)

UK specialist for D+ cups. Uses UK cup letters — which run one letter behind EU above D cup. EU E = UK DD, EU F = UK E, EU G = UK F. UK band numbers are inch-based: EU 75 = UK 34, EU 80 = UK 36.

Fit tip: Convert your EU size to UK before ordering. EU 75E → UK 34DD. EU 80F → UK 36E. Keep in mind EU cup is one ahead of UK cup above D.

Victoria’s Secret US (bought in Europe)

Uses US sizing on labels. US band numbers match UK numbers (and therefore roughly match EU in the conversion). US cup letters diverge above D: US DD = EU E, US DDD = EU F, US DDDD = EU G.

Fit tip: If you’re EU 75F, look for US 34DDD. EU band 75 → US band 34. EU cup F → US cup DDD. US bands run small — size up one US band if between sizes.

Signs Your EU Bra Size Is Wrong

Band size problems

  • Band rides up at the back: band too big. Try EU 5 cm down, one cup up (e.g., EU 80C → 75D).
  • Band digs into ribs or leaves marks: band too small. Try EU 5 cm up, one cup down (e.g., EU 75D → 80C).
  • Band pulls forward when you raise your arms: band too loose. Tighten hooks or size down 5 cm.

Cup size problems

  • Spillover at top or sides: cup too small. Size up one EU cup letter (EU 80D → 80E).
  • Gaping or wrinkling: cup too big. Size down one letter (EU 80D → 80C).
  • Underwire on breast tissue not flat on ribcage: cup too small. Size up one letter immediately.
  • Centre gore not flat against sternum: cup too small or wire width wrong for your breast spacing.
Warning

European fitting studies consistently show that the most common EU sizing error is wearing a band 5–10 cm too large and a cup one to two letters too small. This is partly because the EU band numbers look large — EU 80 sounds like a big band, but 80 cm underbust corresponds to a UK 36 and is completely average. Shoppers who avoid EU 80+ bands because the number seems large often end up in EU 75 bands that are too tight.

Why EU Bra Sizing Confuses Everyone

The French band offset

The single biggest source of confusion in EU sizing is the French band offset. Brands like Chantelle, Simone Pérèle, Aubade, and Princesse tam.tam use French sizing — which adds 15 to the EU band number. An EU 75B appears as FR 90B on these labels. A shopper who sees FR 90C on a Chantelle label and assumes this means a 90 cm underbust is making a 15 cm error — a very significant miscalculation.

The cup-letter shift above D

EU cups run one step ahead of UK/AU cups above D: EU D = UK D, but EU E = UK DD, EU F = UK E, EU G = UK F. This means a European shopper who has always bought EU 75E at Triumph is the equivalent of a UK 34DD shopper at Bravissimo — not a UK 34E. This single conversion mistake causes European shoppers to order a cup too large when buying from UK retailers.

The three-label problem for EU shoppers

  • 🇩🇪 Triumph (Germany): EU 75E
  • 🇫🇷 Chantelle (France): FR 90E — same cup, band +15
  • 🇬🇧 Bravissimo (UK): UK 34DD — band converts, cup drops one letter
  • 🇺🇸 Victoria’s Secret (US): 34DD — band converts, same cup above E diverges
  • 🇦🇺 Berlei (Australia): AU 10DD — dress-size band, same cup as UK
The Bra-Calculator.com Method: EU Sizing Explained

Our approach calculates EU band by rounding underbust cm to the nearest 5, and EU cup from the cm difference between overbust and underbust. We then apply the EU-to-UK cup shift (EU E → UK DD, EU F → UK E) and the FR band offset (+15) to produce fully accurate international conversions. This is the only method that correctly handles both the French offset and the EU-to-UK cup shift in a single calculation.

Shopping International Brands as an EU Shopper

Buying from UK retailers

Convert your EU band to UK using the chart: EU 75 = UK 34, EU 80 = UK 36, EU 85 = UK 38. For cup letters: EU A–D are identical to UK A–D. Above D: EU E = UK DD, EU F = UK E, EU G = UK F, EU H = UK FF, EU I = UK G. So EU 75F becomes UK 34E at Bravissimo, Panache, or Marks & Spencer.

Buying from US retailers

EU band to US band via cm: EU 75 (68–72 cm) = US 34, EU 80 = US 36. US cup letters match EU up to D. Above D: EU E = US DD, EU F = US DDD, EU G = US DDDD, EU H = US G. So EU 80F = US 36DDD.

Buying from Australian retailers

EU band to AU band: EU 75 = AU 10, EU 80 = AU 12, EU 85 = AU 14. AU cup letters are identical to UK letters, which means they are one step behind EU above D: EU E = AU DD, EU F = AU E. So EU 80F = AU 12E at Berlei or Bonds.

Understanding French sizing

FR band = EU band + 15. To convert FR to EU, subtract 15 from the FR band number. The cup letter stays exactly the same. FR 95F = EU 80F. This applies to Chantelle, Simone Pérèle, Aubade, Princesse tam.tam, Etam, and most French lingerie labels.

Shopping tip

When shopping on Zalando, always check whether a brand uses EU or FR sizing — Zalando lists both European and French brands and the size system varies by brand. Filter using your EU size, then check the brand’s own size chart to confirm whether the band number shown is EU or FR. Triumph, Sloggi, and Hunkemöller use EU numbering; Chantelle and Simone Pérèle use FR numbering (EU + 15).

Frequently Asked Questions

How does EU bra sizing work?

EU bra sizing uses centimetre-based band numbers (65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100) and single-letter cup sizes (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J) with no doubled letters. Band size is your underbust measurement in centimetres rounded to the nearest 5: 76 cm rounds to EU 75, 78 cm rounds to EU 80. Cup size is the difference between overbust and underbust in centimetres: 10–11 cm = A, 12–13 cm = B, 16–17 cm = D, 18–19 cm = E. Triumph, Chantelle, Hunkemöller, Sloggi, and Zalando all follow this system.

What is EU cup E in UK and US sizes?

EU cup E equals UK cup DD and US cup DD. The EU system runs one letter ahead of UK/AU above D cup: EU E is the fifth cup letter, equivalent to the UK’s DD (also the fifth UK cup). Both represent 20–21 cm of bust-to-underbust difference. So EU 75E = UK 34DD = US 34DD = AU 10DD. Above E the divergence grows: EU F = UK E = US DDD, EU G = UK F = US DDDD. This EU-to-UK cup offset is the most important conversion for European shoppers buying from British retailers.

What is the difference between EU and French bra sizing?

French bra sizing uses the same cup letters as the EU system but adds 15 to every band number. An EU 75B becomes a French 90B. An EU 80C becomes FR 95C. To convert FR to EU, subtract 15 from the band number. This offset applies to all major French brands: Chantelle, Simone Pérèle, Aubade, Princesse tam.tam, and Etam all use FR numbering on their labels. Triumph and Sloggi use standard EU numbering despite also selling in France.

Is EU 75 the same as UK 34?

Yes. EU 75 and UK 34 both correspond to an underbust measurement of 68–72 cm. The EU band rounds the underbust to the nearest 5 cm — 70 cm underbust rounds to EU 70, while 72 cm rounds to EU 75 (next 5 cm up). The UK system converts the same underbust range to band 34. So EU 75 = UK 34 = US 34 = AU 10 = IN 34. These are all the same band, described differently by each country’s labelling convention.

How do I convert EU bra size to UK size?

Convert the band: EU 70 = UK 32, EU 75 = UK 34, EU 80 = UK 36, EU 85 = UK 38. For cups through D: EU A = UK A, EU D = UK D (identical). Above D: EU E = UK DD, EU F = UK E, EU G = UK F, EU H = UK FF, EU I = UK G. So EU 80F = UK 36E. This one-letter shift above D is critical — many European shoppers make the mistake of keeping the same letter and end up one cup too large when shopping UK brands like Bravissimo or Panache.

Do Triumph and Chantelle use the same EU sizing?

Both brands follow the EU cup sizing standard, but use different band number conventions. Triumph uses standard EU band numbers (75, 80, 85). Chantelle uses French band numbers which are 15 higher — Chantelle’s FR 90 equals Triumph’s EU 75. The cup letters are the same in both systems: Triumph 75E and Chantelle FR 90E describe the same size. When comparing sizes across these brands, always check which numbering system the label uses before converting.

What are sister sizes in EU bra sizing?

Sister sizes are EU bra sizes with the same cup volume but different band widths. EU bands step in 5 cm increments, so sister sizes move by 5 cm in the band and one letter in the cup. From EU 80C, the sister sizes are EU 75D (tighter band, same cup volume) and EU 85B (looser band, same cup volume). Sister sizes are particularly useful when shopping Triumph or Hunkemöller where specific sizes sell out — your sister size provides an identical cup volume in an adjacent band width.

How do I measure my EU bra size at home?

Measure your underbust snugly in centimetres and round to the nearest 5: 68–72 cm = EU 70, 73–77 cm = EU 75, 78–82 cm = EU 80. Measure your overbust loosely at the fullest point. Subtract underbust from overbust: 10–11 cm = A, 12–13 cm = B, 14–15 cm = C, 16–17 cm = D, 18–19 cm = E, 20–21 cm = F. Home measuring is accurate within one sister size for approximately 85% of women when done without a padded bra. Our EU calculator accepts centimetres directly.

How often should I remeasure my EU bra size?

Every six months at minimum, or after any weight change of 3 kg or more, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or notable changes in fit. EU band rounding means small changes in underbust — as little as 2 cm — can shift your band from EU 75 to EU 80, a meaningful fit difference. Because EU bands step in 5 cm increments, a borderline measurement that rounds to EU 80 one month may round to EU 75 the next after minor weight change. Regular remeasurement keeps your EU size accurate.

What if I measure between two EU band sizes?

EU bands step in 5 cm, so boundary measurements are common. If your underbust is exactly 77 cm — the boundary between EU 75 and EU 80 — try the smaller band first. EU bra bands stretch with wear, particularly the elastane-cotton blends used by Triumph and Sloggi. A 77 cm underbust that feels borderline in EU 75 on first wear will typically relax to a comfortable fit within a few days. If it still feels restrictive when breathing deeply, try EU 80.

What is the largest EU bra size available?

Most mainstream EU retailers stock bands EU 70–95 and cups A through F or G. Triumph’s full range extends through EU 105 in selected styles and cup H or I. UK specialist retailers like Bravissimo and Fantasie — whose cup letters are one step behind EU above D — cover through K or L cup in UK terms, equivalent to EU J or K. For very large cup sizes, shopping from UK or specialist retailers who ship to Europe provides a significantly broader range than EU domestic retail.

Is Italian bra sizing the same as EU sizing?

Yes. Italian bra sizing uses the same EU cm-based band numbers and single-letter cup system. Italian brands like La Perla, Intimissimi, Yamamay, and Calzedonia all use standard EU sizing on their labels. IT 75C = EU 75C exactly. Some older Italian sizing guides used a different convention, but contemporary Italian lingerie retail has standardised on the EU system. Shopping from Italian retailers can be done using your EU size directly.

Does EU bra sizing include inches?

EU sizing is exclusively centimetre-based. Band numbers represent centimetres — EU 75 means 75 cm range. Inches are not used in EU sizing at any stage of the calculation. If you have measured in inches, convert to centimetres by multiplying by 2.54, then apply the EU rounding: 30 inches underbust equals 76.2 cm, which rounds to EU 75. Our EU calculator accepts centimetres only — for inch inputs, use our UK or US calculators which handle inches natively.
